Before I tell you about this career-changing program, let's talk about who it's for...

You are the equine professional who knows there must be a better way to manage and prevent equine performance issues!  The Postural Rehabilitation Team will guide you to improve the lives of horses (and their people!) in ways you never could have imagined!

Becoming an expert is a lifetime's work, and you are always looking for the next fantastic tool that will help you do more, better, faster for the horses in your care, and everyone loves and admires you for that.

But sometimes it can be so frustrating to see the same problems recur over and over again.  I know just how that feels!  Worrying about how we could help these horses keeps so many of us up at night! 😬 😵

No matter if you are...

  • An equine veterinarian who sees difficult performance problems daily,

  • A holistic vet, integrating ancient wisdom and modern science to help solve complex health puzzles,

  • A certified animal chiropractor, osteopath or physiotherapist specializing in spinal and muscular issues,

  • An allied professional providing hoof care, dental care, or manual therapy to horses,

  • A professional trainer working to help riders have the best connection and the best performance from their horses...

Postural Rehabilitation is the foundational understanding that leads to repeatable success with your other interventions!

I'm going to tell you exactly how Postural Rehab will give you the insight and the mechanics to transform your practice and your business to 100% repeatable success stories, as well as welcoming you to an engaged, caring community of peers, and providing access to the expert guidance you need to achieve these goals.

By the end of this program you will

Have reliable, REPEATABLE pathways to solve *mystery* lamenesses!

Lameness doesn't drop from the skies!  There is always a reason that tissues fail.  We give you the tools to become expert in injury forensics.

Access BIG PICTURE SOLUTIONS using Complexity Theory

Complexity informs all of our practice experience.  You will learn how to make positive changes by taking advantage of points of maximum influence.

Rediscover the JOY of connecting deeply with your patients

When you are stable, and not fighting with gravity, all communication with horses (and even with your clients) becomes so much easier and more effective.

Understand why cervical spine function links EVERYTHING

The neck is a narrow causeway through which all neural signals must travel.  When there are movement restrictions at the poll or C-T junction, systemic problems arise!

RELIABLY RECOGNIZE structural distortions in equine feet and teeth

Horses rely upon their caretakers to maintain their hooves and teeth.  Differentiate "common" vs normal feet and teeth, learn why this matters, and what to do about it.

Create a DREAM TEAM of allies committed to whole horse care

The PR community will help you network your way to an ideal horse care team, so you can offer clients a comprehensive plan to help their horses live better lives.

But above all else...

With the lens of Postural Rehabilitation, you can "connect the dots" between all your hard-earned equine knowledge. This solid foundation will improve your relationships with your patients, your clients and your work . . . and hopefully even put you on the path to improving your own postural integration, so that you can continue to work more effortlessly and more effectively for longer.

You have to keep at it!!  The horses need you!!

YES TO ALL THIS!!

Dr. Heather O'Leary, holistic veterinarian from the Hudson Valley, tells about her journey to learn Postural Rehabilitation.

ABOUT

Judith M. Shoemaker DVM

Judith is an internationally renowned practitioner and educator in integrative veterinary medicine.  Dr. Shoemaker is a 1980 graduate of the University of Georgia and is licensed to practice in over 14 states.  She was awarded AHVMA Practitioner of the Year in 2012.  Dr. Shoemaker's equine and companion animal veterinary practice focuses on complementary medicine and holistic therapies-- integrating chiropractic, acupuncture, and other modalities for treating elite athletes in canine and equine competition, as well as service animals and companion animals.  She has extensive post-grad professional training in orthopedics, reproduction and myriad integrative therapies.

She was certified by AVCA and IVAS over 30 years ago, and has taught extensively in both Diplomate and CE programs for these organizations.  In 2005, along with Dr. Gellman and Elizabeth Reese, she founded Postural Rehabilitation, a professional training based upon her original clinical work: manual techniques used to reset the functional input to the postural control centers of the brain.

ABOUT

Elizabeth Reese AmSAT, M.Ed, LMHC

Liz is a certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique, a dressage rider and instructor, and mental health counselor, working with both humans and horses to explore the relationship of postural stability to emotional resilience. She was a co-founder and principal instructor in the original Postural Rehabilitation CE training for veterinarians. She gives workshops on AT and postural resilience for veterinarians, AT teachers and riders worldwide. Her work with both humans and horses suffering from trauma inspired her to study the relationship of postural stability to emotional resilience, earning a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, specializing in working with clients recovering from trauma, grief and loss.

She currently is on faculty at Bard College Vocal Arts MFA program and Neighborhood Playhouse, a professional acting training program in NYC and maintains a private practice in Sugar Loaf, New York and in NYC.

ABOUT

Karen Gellman DVM, PhD

Karen is a graduate of Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine, and has a doctorate from Cornell in animal locomotion biomechanics. She has advanced training and certification in veterinary acupuncture and veterinary chiropractic and has practiced these and other holistic modalities since 1995. She teaches internationally about posture, locomotion biomechanics, equine dentistry and veterinary complementary therapies to veterinary professionals and allied professions.

Dr. Gellman is the research director for Maximum Horsepower Research, receiving an AHVMF grant in 2014 to study posture in horses.  The first paper from this work, "Standing Horse Posture: a longer stance is more stable", published in 2022, was recently featured in Equus Magazine.  In 2019, Dr. Gellman founded Plena Curae Botanical Solutions, a company making novel botanical pain solutions for pets and horses, and in 2021 began developing DVM Detective, a platform for on-line virtual holistic veterinary care and education.

What Postural Rehabilitation Alumni are saying about the program:

I think what really sets this course apart from other courses is the emphasis that is put on addressing the practitioner's body and becoming more in tune with ourselves and our own proprioception before we begin working on a horse and translating our personal imbalances into the animal.

Tara Schultz

Vital Equine Solutions, MN

Absolutely would recommend this to any current practitioner who is looking to enhance their current modalities, provide lasting change to their clients, and help facilitate true balance within the horse’s body.

Hannah Taylor

Equine Osteopath, ON

My favorite part was how well Liz, Dr. Karen and Dr. Judith tied it all together, from being able to feel it, then the science behind it, then practical application on the horses. I also really appreciated the welcoming vibe, the space felt safe for learning and exploring questions and ideas.

Dr. Amber Langmeier

All Chiropractic, MD

Professional growth was expected.  What I am so thrilled about is the personal growth--both immediate and future growth is evident.

If you don't know about Postural Rehabilitation... you are missing out!

The FOMO should be real--

these classes changed my life!

And just when I think I'm finally getting smart about posture, Karen tells me something that just blows me away!! And I love it!  I can return and return to my notes from my Postural Rehab class and I always come across something new, or an answer to something that everyone is pondering.

Dr. Rachel Heart Bellini

Heart Equine, TX

I feel this course should be required in veterinary school curriculum!

Dr. Janet Gordon Palm

Holistic Veterinarian, CO

I have used this information every day in my practice and I tell people it is one of the most valuable tools I have ever learned to bring and keep horses and dogs to soundness.

Dr. Alisa Sneade-Koenig

The Veterinary Alternative, NY

I enjoyed the entire course, but being able to watch the theory lectures on my own time was super helpful. I like to pause, repeat and go over concepts until they click. Then follow up with the practical sessions and the Q & A sessions gave me the repetition that I needed to really help the concepts sink in.

Are you ready to be the Equine Professional who changes lives, not "just" treats horses?

Postural Rehabilitation

Professional

January 19 through March 15, 2025

You will never look at a horse the same way!

  • Posture and Complexity

Posture and locomotion are emergent properties of the complex neuro-musculo-skeletal system.  Once you really see posture in horses, you can't "un-see" it!

  • Normal and Abnormal Posture

Learn to instantly recognize Normal Neutral Posture (NNP) and Abnormal Compensatory Posture (ACP).

  • Understanding Postural Control

Posture is unconscious but is guided by intent. Embodiment is how cognitive intent organizes posture and movement.

The vertebral spine is a miracle of engineering. . . until it isn't !

  • The Mechanics of Spinal Support

Do popular magazine articles about equine spinal biomechanics really tell stories consistent with physics?

  • Mobilizers and Stabilizers

Learn the difference between muscles of movement and muscles of stability. When you recruit a mobilizer for stabilization, trouble ensues! And what about the fascia?

  • Upper and Lower Cervical Transition Zones

The poll and the cervical-thoracic junction have greater movement than any other joints in the body, yet they are protecting critical neural tissue!! How do they do it?

Dentition and Hooves are critical to postural reporting!

  • What is the Stomatognathic system? A direct connection between dentition and posture!

Crooked teeth -- are they a cosmetic flaw or the tip of the iceberg?  Asymmetrical dentition translates to twisted bony structures from head to toe.

  • Common is NOT NORMAL!!  The hooves you see every day are highly distorted!

When nature can't wear hooves, humans must step in.  But they tend to operate by tradition and convenience.  Not Good!

  • ACP is associated with long toes and restrictions of A/P movement in chewing!

Our research shows a repeatable pattern: certain distortions in feet and teeth are always found with abnormal posture!

How will you apply your PR education to help horses?

  • Finding the right allied professionals to correct critical structures in your patients

Proactive practitioners can assess dentistry and podiatry, and help clients understand when their current people are not doing the job their horses need. It takes both knowledge and people skills to get everyone on board to help horses!  Let's discuss strategies!

  • Teasing out the origins of complex problems

Injury forensics is how you will achieve long lasting results!  Because it's not just the current problem, it's every compensation along the way.

  • Management and Exercise is critical to maintain equine physical and emotional health

When do our management compromises cross the line to becoming detrimental to a horse's well being?

EXPERT, WORLD CLASS SUPPORT for 8 weeks!  It's like having your own personal tutorial !!

Each week, from January 19 through March 15, we will have lectures for you to watch on demand, plus live sessions with Dr. Shoemaker and Dr. Gellman to discuss the practical applications of the concepts we teach.

Best of all, we will begin each week with a 75 minute Alexander Technique workshop, led by Elizabeth Reese, master teacher of this essential movement and body awareness modality.  We will explore the weekly concepts as they apply to our own bodies.

There will be a live Q & A session at the end of each week to clarify concepts and make sure everyone is ready to move on.  Postural Rehab participants will be part of a private PR Facebook group, where we can connect with colleagues and share our knowledge.  See times and dates below in FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Postural Rehabilitation training right for me?

If you are a dedicated horse practitioner, Postural Rehabilitation will enhance all you are doing already.  It will explain why some interventions have worked for you and others have not.  The postural perspective will make all of your skills more valuable because your results will take effect more rapidly and more permanently.  PR will also inform every aspect of your own life, helping you to avoid injury and to recover more quickly and effectively from injuries that are unavoidable.

You can't afford NOT to be a better, more effective practitioner of your arts and skills!!

If you still feel unsure whether this investment in your career is the right choice for you at this time, I'd be happy to talk to you, and maybe answer a few questions.  Go to this link and book a brief PR Exploration call or Zoom meeting.

How is the training structured?

There are 8 Modules, each exploring a different component of the postural organization and control of domestic horses.  Each module will have 2-4 pre-recorded video lectures, and access to the scientific papers supporting the content.  You must enroll by January 12th to do the preparatory work, because the program begins on January 19.  Live sessions begin on January 19 and run through March 15, 2025.  All times are Eastern US time (UTC-5).

You will:

  • Join the Postural Rehabilitation private member-only FB group, where you can reach out to the instructors with questions, and share your knowledge and experience with your peers and allies;
  • Watch the on-demand videos, which will be open for access the week before each module starts;
  • Each Sunday will begin with a 75 minute Alexander Technique Workshop, with Elizabeth Reese at 9:30 AM;
  • Dr. Shoemaker will hold a live PR Practical Applications session each Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM, explaining how to apply the concepts in the lectures;
  • There will be a weekly Q&A session on Fridays at 4 PM ET, hosted by one or more of the instructors.  If you can not attend live, you can submit your questions in the FB group and listen to the answers in the recording;
  • We hope to surprise you with special guest speakers on exciting topics of interest to all.
  • You have FOREVER access to the program membership, including recordings of live sessions!

When the course is over, you can join the Postural Rehabilitation Professional Network, with twice-monthly meetings on case and practice management, continuation of your AT work, and Special Topics.  Professionals who have completed PRP online are eligible to be listed in the world-wide PR Practitioner Directory.  Licensed professionals (DVM/VMD, DC, DO, PT) will be eligible to take the live hands-on techniques training program (see question below).

What if I can't make the live calls?

All live sessions will be recorded and will be available to watch in the private FB group within a few hours.  We will do our best to be sure that at least 1 (and hopefully, more) live weekly session will work for your time zone.  Dr. Shoemaker's Tuesday sessions will be held at 7:30 pm, Friday Q&A will be 4:00 pm, and the Sunday kinesthetic awareness workshops will be 9:30 am.  All times are Eastern US time (UTC-5).

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes! See above for details.

Are there CE hours available?

Postural Rehabilitation Professional has been approved for 71 AVCA hours (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association), 64 IVCA hours (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association), and 71.5 RACE hours (AAVSB).  You must complete the course to have your certificate, and CE hours submitted.

How do I learn the Postural Rehab hands-on techniques?

The hands-on Postural Rehabilitation training will be held in the Chicago area the last week of May 2025, and licensed professionals (DVM/VMD, DC, DO, PT) who have completed the PRP on-line training are eligible to enroll.  Because of liability issues, we can not offer hands-on training to equine body workers.

Don't just take our word for it... listen to our people!

Dr. Laurelyn Keener is a veterinarian from Minnesota who focuses on equine dentition in her clinical practice.  Here she explains why she took Postural Rehabilitation Professional, and what her experience was both in the on-line conceptual portion of the training, and in the followup hands-on training available to licensed professionals

(See FAQ above for information about PR Techniques training).

From Dr. Keener's PRP course evaluation:

"I so appreciate the sincerity, authenticity, and love that you all (Karen, Liz, Judith, Daisy) radiate - love for your work, and the animals (living and moved on), and the people trying to do better by them. Thank you for helping me to really own "I am enough" and "I am always seeking to improve and understand and do better" rather than have the imposter syndrome/never enough feeling. Thank you for providing a science-based course on the stuff that doesn't always seem to be explainable. When you can show science that the ancient wisdom is real: you are helping more puzzle pieces fall into place, as more and more people understand what the animals and Earth have never forgotten: EVERYTHING IS INTERCONNECTED!!  From my whole being, thank you!"

The Next Step

Is Up To You...

We can't wait for you to add your fantastic insights and lifetime of equine experience to our world-wide Postural Rehabilitation community!
